REI Mountain Bikes Recalled

U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a voluntary recall of 160 REI Equipment bicycles due to a fall hazard. The alloy steerer tube on REI's Novara Fusion bicycles could separate from the fork, causing a rider to lose control, the commission said in a statement.

Safer Cribs Needed to Avoid Injuries

A new study, covering 19 years of emergency room data, shows that almost 10,000 infants and toddlers are hurt in crib and playpen accidents each year. Most injuries were from falls in toddlers between ages 1 and 2 - generally old enough to attempt climbing out of a crib or playpen.

You can play with the deer and the antelope there, but don't plan on using medical marijuana if you visit our neighbor to the north. A bill specifying that Wyoming won't recognize medical marijuana prescriptions is advancing at the state Capitol. The Wyoming Senate gave preliminary approval to House Bill 69 on Wednesday.

Insurance Companies Must Communicate

A policyholder pays for coverage and expects to have a cooperative relationship with his insured in the event of a claim. For one Colorado insured, the insurance company stepped forward to cover at least a part of a claim, but then communication ceased. The insurer failed to respond promptly to inquiries from the policyholder and failed to coordinate with the necessary third parties who were attempting to resolve the claim. The policyholder was kept in a state of limbo, wondering whether, and to what extent, the insurer would cover the claim.

Wild West May Return to Colorado

Republican lawmakers are pushing a bill that would allow a "law-abiding person" to carry a concealed weapon without a permit in Colorado, including at universities. Written in partnership with pro-gun group Rocky Mountain Gun Owners, House Bill would make it optional to carry a concealed-carry permit.

Finally a little sanity may replace a rigid system of prohibition in our Colorado schools regarding prescription medicine for our students. A senate bill has been introduced to allow students to possess life-saving medications while at public schools. The bill eliminates statutory language requiring a student to have a treatment plan before he or she may possess or self-administer medication to treat his or her asthma, food or other allergy, anaphylaxis, or other related, life-threatening condition.

Red Light Cameras Save Lives

You may hate them, and, yes, they are all over the commute into town along 6th Avenue. But red light cameras are helping drivers remember that red means stop and are saving lives, according to a new study out Tuesday by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The study concludes that the cameras have reduced the rate of fatal crashes by 24 percent in 14 large cities that introduced red light cameras between 1996 and 2004.
