They seem to be everywhere this summer - ceramic pots which use gel fuel are being sold at big box hardware stores, grocery store chains and discount stores. But just over a week after warning about serious burn dangers linked to these outdoor ceramic pots, known as firepots, the government on Wednesday announced the recall of nearly a half-million bottles and jugs of the gel fuel used in the patio decorations.

This weekend in Colorado two men drowned and a young boy came close to being the third drowning victim. Rescue crews searched Sunday for a 31-year-old man who fell into the Colorado River near the State Bridge area in Eagle County after the Sheriff's Office received a call from someone who heard the man fall, police say. And in Mesa County, the Coroner's Office has identified the 17-year-old who drowned Saturday while fishing in a private pond south of Grand Junction. The teenager reportedly entered the water to retrieve a fishing pole, surfaced one time and was not seen again by friends. Divers recovered his body 22 feet below the surface of the pond.
A Colorado bill prompted by the grisly death of a tow-truck operator was signed last week by Gov. John Hickenlooper. the Governor signed the measure in Colorado Springs, where 35-year-old Allen Rose was dragged to his death earlier this year. Police say Rose was preparing to tow an illegally parked SUV when someone got in and drove away. Investigators say Rose got tangled in the dangling tow cable and was dragged for more than a mile.

The death of a man who was punched during a confrontation in Fort Collins is being investigated as a homicide. The Larimer County Coroner's Office performed an autopsy on the body the 24-year-old after ruling his death a homicide, according to a coroner's media release. The victim died of died of a blunt force head injury, the coroner's office said. Another Fort Collins man was arrested immediately following the assault early Saturday.
Colorado health officials warned Thursday that an outbreak of listeria cases has led to two deaths since May 20, a cause for concern when the state averages only 10 bouts of the illness a year. Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment epidemiologists said three cases of listeria infection involving people of Latino heritage had resulted in two deaths. The dead were a man in his 30s and a woman in her 60s.
