Payday Lenders Lay Low

The number of payday lenders in Colorado during the calendar year 2010 fell 19 percent from 2009, to only 410 locations, according to a report from Colorado Attorney General John Suthers. And during the same time period, the number of payday loans issued fell 29 percent.

Bullying Must Not Be Tolerated

The suicide death last week of 14-year-old Jamey Rodemeyer, who was bullied online with gay slurs for more than a year, is a tragic demonstration of the very real harm caused by bullying. The teen's parents, friends and even Lady Gaga, who was his idol, have expressed outrage about the relentless torment he suffered on social networking websites.

Scary Sleepover Scenarios

It is a common event for youngsters and teens - an invitation from a friend to sleepover. But according to Greeley police, a man brought his 16-year-old son to the police department at 10 a.m. last Friday to report that his son was sexually assaulted by his friend's father at a sleepover. The father is facing two felonies after his son's friend accused him of sexual assault.

The aspen are just beginning to turn, yet the Colorado State Patrol has already had the first road closure of the season. The patrol closed Interstate 70 near the Eisenhower tunnel on Sunday to clear six separate accidents.

Oil Paint Dangers

A father of two is still fighting for his life after being burned over 80 percent of his body when the east Denver house he was painting exploded in flames. The husband and father, whose chances of survival were estimated at 5 to 10 percent, has had three surgeries since the accident happened two weeks ago. He is expected to remain in the Burn Trauma Intensive Care Unit at University of Colorado Hospital for three to four months.

Just weeks after reducing a fine against the Larimer County Republican Party, Secretary of State Scott Gessler is helping the party host a fundraiser to pay down the penalty his office ultimately levied. The fundraiser will feature Gessler, a Republican who took office in January, sitting in a dunk tank so that local Republicans angry about the $15,700 fine can throw balls at a target and send him splashing downward.
